    Abstract

The present study examines the importance headmasters attach to mental health problems
of their pupils and teachers and to potential supporting resources for school based mental
health promotion. As part of an international study headmasters from Germany were asked via an
online survey (N = 840). Compared to internalizing problems headmasters attach a higher importance to externalizing problems of pupils and teachers. In particular concrete and practical assistance
    (e. g. to support pupils/families, to make early identification of symptoms of mental health
problems) is assessed as most useful. Additionally performed univariate analyses of variances revealed a main effect for sex of the headmasters and type of school. The results are discussed regarding their practical implications for school health promotion.
