Abstract

A pilot study concerning the development of a simulation-based tool for intelligence assessment is presented A computer simulation (MultiFlux; Kröner, 2001) is used, based on three ideas: (1) "control of previous knowledge"; (2) "separation of system exploration and system control", (3) assessment of system control performance according to principles of classical testing theory using so called "simulation based test items". 28 students worked on MultiFlux and Raven's (1958) Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) The correlation of the two tests is r = 0.51. Additional variance in the MultiFlux system control performance is accounted for by students' strategies during MultiFlux exploration. It is discussed how this fact can be used for further augmenting the correlation between achievement in simulation-based assessment tools like MultiFtux and traditional intelligence tests.
