Abstract
In early phases of a system development process often a model is required to describe the system's behavior. Examples are given to characterize the systems of interest as inhomogeneous computer networks with common resources and communication facilities applying different protocols. The analysis of such systems is based on a formal model. Two analysis approaches are discussed: functional simulation and extended Petri-nets.
