    Abstract

The German energy transition requires the expansion of the transmission grid. Conventional overhead lines often visually disturb the landscape, they endanger the avifauna, and they gain low public acceptance. This article presents an alternative which is being developed at SAG GmbH. These innovative overhead lines can be constructed in a smaller and slimmer manner by using tensely suspended cables. As a result, they are less visible in the landscape and can fit in slimmer corridors. Moreover, their characteristics suggest that they endanger birds less. To introduce this new technology, amendments to German energy law are needed.
