Abstract
The “Unterrichtswissenschaft” is celebrating an anniversary – it will have been published for 50 years in 2023. This article is the introduction for the anniversary issue (Issue 1, 2023). It first presents the founding of the journal. Using the protocols of the editors’ meeting, it outlines how “Unterrichtswissenschaft” has developed as a journal of empirical research on teaching and learning and the challenges it has faced. Finally, the reflections of the current editors on the future development of the journal and research on teaching and learning are presented.
