Jeremias Herberg

Curriculum

Jeremias Herberg is a sociologist of science and technology and a postdoc researcher in the project "Complexity or Control". His research examines the connection of trans- and interdisciplinary research and education to the "information age", or to so-called "knowledge economies". His current project traces the epistemological roots, collaborative practices and politico-economic conditions of transdisciplinarity in the historical context of cybernetics. The forthcoming doctoral thesis unravels the institutional complexities and political implications of the trend towards a so-called STEM education, in which education is increasingly governed as if it were a driver of regional economic growth.

Generally, he is interested in the perpetuating role and transformative potential of education and research in the nexus of capitalism and sustainability. Herberg holds a Master degree in the Science and Technology Studies, Maastricht University, and a Bachelor in Sociology, University of Vienna. 2015 he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley.

Teaching

Schwerpunkt auf der Technikgeschichte und -Soziologie der Bildung und auf wissenschaftssoziologischen Diskursen der Nachhaltigkeitsforschung. Studentische Arbeiten in diesen oder angrenzenden Gebieten werden gerne entgegengenommen.
