Curriculum

Since January 2010 Daniel J. Lang is Professor for Trandisciplinary Sustainability Research at Leuphana University Lueneburg at the Faculty of Sustainability. He was Dean of this faculty between 2012 and 2016 and since 2016 he is the President’s Special Advisor for Sustainability at Leuphana. The main focus of Daniel’s work revolves around the further development of the theoretical, methodological as well as process-related foundations of Sustainability Science. In particular, his professorship focuses on cooperation and mutual learning processes between different scientific disciplines as well as science and society with the aim to develop robust solution options for urgent sustainability problems of the 21st century.

 

Research interests

Sustainability sciences, transdisciplinary research, human-environment systems, system theory, systemic assessment, future studies (scenario analysis), material flow analysis, integrated risk assessment, waste and resource management, urban and regional development

Teaching

The main focus revolves around the further development of the theoretical, methodological as well as process-related foundations of Sustainability Science. In particular the professorship focuses on cooperation and mutual learning processes between different scientific disciplines as well as science and society with the aim to develop robust solution options for urgent sustainability problems of the 21st century. Prof. Lang is currently leading several large sustainability science projects both engaging in transformational sustainability research as well as analysing this and similar research approaches from a meta-perspective.
