Leuphana Concert Lab creates societal, cultural and educational impact

Impact: Academic Impact, Cultural Impact, Social Impact

Description of impact

A real place of action has been created: The 'Leuphana Concert Lab' is a combination of music events and social occasions, dedicated to different topics of societal relevance. The events have changing character, depending on the partnering organisations or students of different disciplines. The Concert Lab started in November 2023, and already thrives on fruitful collaborations with international partners, such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Stein&Sons, TONALiSTEN, ensemble reflektor, chaos I cadence, and the Ensemble interactivo de la Habana.

With its collaborations and initiatives to attract target groups under a social aspect, the lab actively contributed to the creation of a new and inclusive community. The Lab’s transdisciplinary approach provided valuable learning effects for everyone involved: the musicians perceived themselves outside of their usual function as the bearers of a space for transfer and exchange, the scholars gained new insights for their research, and the students were prepared for their professional practice. Another result is the creation of an online course for musicians which is now officially used for training – a clear example for the educational impact of the Lab.
The Leuphana Concert Lab has received the M&T Impact award 2024 and is being continued thanks to external funding from The Verwertungsgesellschaft für Künstler:innen and the Commerzbank Stiftung.
