Description
In the Datahandbook of German Educational History the results of the comprehensive DFG-Project named QUAKRI (abbreviation for “Qualification Crisis and Structural Change of the Educational System”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG)) are published. Four research-groups of this project analysed different subareas of the educational system concerning common questions. The Data files gathered systematically in the framework of the analysis are published in the volumes of the Datahandbook.
Content of the study ZA8142 is volume 1 of the Datahandbook, containing data about the attendance at further education from the German Reich until the Second World War. This Data are gathered by the Göttinger research group of the DFG-Project (H. Titze, H.-G. Herrlitz, V. Müller-Benedict, A. Nath). In the context of this project information of students of almost 100 different subjects of 26 Universities are collected for a time period of more than 100 years.
The following reasons caused a special consideration of prussian universities:1. Statistical time series of this universities cover a long period and they are very differentiated. So, the statistical material of these Universities is of a very good quality and allows analysis of the combination of special features (for example: preparatory training and family background of the students). 2. In reference to the size and meaning Prussia took an exceptional position topping all German States till the Second World War. This exceptional position also comprised the area of further education.
Subjects: Topics of the Study (Tables of the ZA-Online-Database HISTAT)- Father’s occupation - Population - Changes of Faculty - Subjects / Faculies - Enrolment - Students’ age - Financial aid - Preparatory training
