Abstract
This paper investigates the economic determinants of asylum applications in 22 OECD countries. The results of the econometric analysis demonstrate on the one hand, the long-run positive association between the gross domestic product per capita of the host country and the asylum applications, and on the other hand, the negative association between the unemployment rate of the host country and the asylum applications. Moreover, six global stochastictrends play also an important role in the determination of asylum applications.
