Abstract

This research introduces a groundbreaking approach for quality assurance in micro crown gears, traditionally hampered by a lack of standardization and clear quality metrics. Leveraging previous wbk - Institute for Production Science work, which highlighted discrepancies between single flank rolling tests and analytical simulations for micro gears, our study proposes a novel concept. It's based on the assumption that tooth engagement along a straight line on the tooth flank is consistent for both crown and spur gears, laying the groundwork for an innovative methodology that transforms the complex geometry of crown gears into an equivalent spur gear geometry. This transformation allows the use of existing simulation pipelines, previously ineffective for crown gears, to predict functional quality characteristics derived from rolling tests. Our method aims to bridge the quality assurance gap for micro crown gears, proven through empirical test rig comparisons. This simplifies the analysis and prediction of quality metrics for micro crown gears and establishes standardized quality assurance practices in this niche field, offering a more streamlined, accurate, and efficient quality assurance method.
