Abstract

This article strives to theoretically understand and empirically research the numerous attempts to put refugees to work in the wake of the ›long summer of migration‹ of 2015 in Germany. Starting with a discussion of the ›autonomy of migration‹ approach in light of the multiple transformations and crises of the European border regime, the authors focus on shifting paradigms in the management of labour mobility. A short review of the emerging field of ›critical logistics studies‹ allows them to single out a process of ›logistification‹ of migration regimes, according to the goal of a ›just-in-time and to-the-point‹ migration. The authors test their hypothesis using research they have conducted in Berlin that particularly focuses on the roles played by the complex system and infrastructure of intermediation of the state, the private sector, and civil society actors to manage the ›integration‹ of refugees into the German labour market.
