Abstract

In Latin American countries, the transition toward a more sustainable future happens within diverse social, economic, and political contexts, while guided by similar experiences, initiatives, resources, and policy frameworks. These efforts are often led by higher education institutions and supported by global collaboration, further highlighting the role of international networks, such as the Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC) program, in supporting the advancement of green chemistry within the region. This work presents a regional perspective on the integration of green chemistry principles and practices in Latin American countries participating in the GCC program (i.e., Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Mexico), demonstrating how international programs can provide global partnerships and further catalyze the implementation of green chemistry locally and globally. The experiences shared demonstrate how diverse environments can create transferable models that can be applied in different contexts and settings to promote the achievement of a sustainable future, using green chemistry as a design framework for inherently safer and more sustainable molecules, materials and processes.
